Unit 5: A day in the life of ...
Read about a typical day in the life of five people from around the world. Can you match the pictures with the texts?

My day starts quite late. I get up at about 9 o'clock and have breakfast with my wife. We have eggs, bread and fruit. I go into town and meet my friends. Sometimes I work as a car park attendant in the morning. Then I go home for a sleep in the afternoon. My real job starts in the evening at about 10 p.m. I play in a band in a music club. Many tourists come to hear us play.
Pedro, Cuba

My day starts early. I get up at 5.30 in the morning and go to the Orthodox church near my home. Then I go home and make breakfast for my three children. When my husband is at work and my children are at school, I visit my family or go to an internet café in the city. In the afternoon, I cook or make Ethiopian beer.
Mariam, Ethiopia

I am now 92 years old and this is the secret of my long life: I get up early, do exercises on the beach and then go to work on my son's farm. I work very hard, but have a rest in the afternoon.
I don't eat too much and only healthy food. I don't eat much meat, but a lot of fish and vegetables. I always go to bed early.
Maki, Japan

For me, every day is the same. I get up very early because the bus leaves our village at 4.30 in the morning. I make breakfast for the children before I go and put it on the table. My sister comes to my house at 7.30 to send the children to school.
The bus gets to Otavalo at quarter past eight. My husband and I have a stall in the market there. The market starts at about 9 o'clock.
We usually get home at 9.30 in the evening and have a meal with the family before the children go to bed.
Elsa, Ecuador

I love my job because I work at the beach. I get up at 8 o'clock and have a very big breakfast. My work is hard and I have to be fit. I get to the beach at 9. I work in a team of three because our beach is very big. Sometimes we have a lot of work, but sometimes everything is quiet.
My colleagues and I have our lunch at different times because two of us are on duty all the time.
Brad, Australia
