Teenage kicks: Tell’s tale
This is a text of 819 words about William Tell, the celebrated Swiss national hero who, on November 18, 1307, successfully shot an apple off his son’s head and began a rebellion which ended in the Swiss gaining autonomy and independence from the Holy Roman Empire. The text is largely narrative and treats the subject matter as though it were fact, although this is not necessarily the case. There remains a certain amount of doubt as to whether or not the said Mr Tell actually existed. A vocabulary list is printed on the worksheet.
