Famous places of the past

Let's have a look at a few of the most famous places on Route 66. The route goes through eight states. You can see their names in the blue box. For every state there are one or two numbers. Click on them one by one and each time you will see a picture. In the box on the right there is one sentence for each picture. But they are not in the correct order, so you have to find the right ones.

  1. Stand-alone-Bridge, east of Winslow, Arizona: the road is gone today.
  2. In Clinton, Oklahoma you should visit the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum.
  3. The shop H. C. Antiques in Chenoa, Illinois - built in the late 1800s - has been closed down.
  4. This old Model A car is parked in front of the shop Route 66 Antiques in Landergrin, Texas.
  5. The Chain of Rocks Bridge over the Mississippi near St. Louis, Missouri is being restored.
  6. The Alamo Lodge in Sante Fe, New Mexico opened in the 1920s.
  7. El Garces, Santa Fe train station in Needles, California is deserted, but the city of Needles has restoration plans.
  8. You can still get something to drink and to eat in the Ariston Cafe in Litchfield, Illinois today.
  9. The California Route 66 Museum in Victorville, California is a real must-see.
  10. Near Afton, Oklahoma the road is not in very good condition.
  11. The gas station in Galena, Kansas was closed down years ago.
  12. Rio Pecos Ranch Truck Terminal in Santa Rosa, New Mexico was in operation from the 1940s to 1990.
  13. The U-Drop-Inn and gas station in Shamrock, Texas closed down in December, 1995.
  14. Santa Fe Train Station in Williams, Arizona operates as a hotel and train station for the Grand Canyon Railway.
  15. The Palmer Hotel and Cafe in Joplin, Missouri is still open.
