Tasks
The people in Gloucester, England are very proud of their cathedral and very soon something very exciting is going to happen there. To find out what that is, go to the Gloucester Cathedral site and try to answer the following questions. The first web site shows a beautiful photo of the cathedral. Click on it. Then, on the left you’ll see a list of headings: e. g. History, Information for Visitors, Bells, Harry Potter. Each question that you have to answer tells you which of these headings you have to click on to find the answer. And don’t worry, you don’t have to understand all the text on this web site. Just look in the web site texts for the underlined key words that are in the questions below.

  1. Click on History. When did Henry VIII build the cathedral?

  2. Click on Information for Visitors. How much does it cost for an adult to visit the cathedral? Is the cathedral open on Sundays?

  3. Click on Bells and then Ringing at Gloucester. How many steps do you have to climb to get to the bells?

  4. Click on Harry Potter. Two films have been made at the cathedral. Who and what are these films about?

Print out the photo of Gloucester Cathedral that’s on the homepage. Write a short text of about 80 words. Start like this: This is a photo of Gloucester Cathedral. Henry the Eighth built the cathedral in …

Then read your text out to the rest of the class and show them the photo.
